PhotoShare: Mana Dreaming

I can't believe how time has flied. It's now almost a year since I made the epic journey up to Mana Pools in Zimbabwe with Marlon du Toit. 

I am still working through some images captured there last year. Here's one I thought you would enjoy. It was taken at sunset on our first afternoon in the Zambezi riverbed. I was sitting on the river bank photographing some elephants foraging in the sandy riverbed. There are few things that compare to the light of an African hazy sunset combined with dust and an iconic animal.

Here is another quick photo - I am really swamped with work and personal issues so my lengthy blog post is still not finished (humble apologies).

This herd of elephants was photographed from the air - I was in an open-door helicopter flying low over the magnificent Okavango Delta in Botswana.

PhotoShare: Savute Elephants

Since returning from Botswana I have not had time to even touch the ground, or so it feels! Apologies for this not being a longer, more detailed blog post...I should be able to concoct one in June at least!

These elephant bulls were marching on the Savute marsh. The marsh is now receiving water for the first time in decades, after the Savute channel started flowing for the first time in over 40 years about 2 years ago. I look forward to returning there later this year!

PhotoShare: Another one bites the dust!

Hi everyone!! So I am back from an amazing trip to Botswana...with so many photos to work through I don't even know where to start...

Here is a quick one from our first morning on safari. This was the first time in my life I had witnessed this kind of behaviour, which is called "geophagia" (definition thanks to my friend Grant Atkinson, an amazingly talented photographic safari guide in Botswana). This Plains Zebra (Burchell's Zebra) was biting chunks off a termite mound in order to supplement her diet with specific nutrients.

I am in the process of doing a full trip report so hang in there!!

Quick Update!!

Hey everyone...


I apologize upfront for the silence on my side. Things have been quite hectic! First off, our first-born  arrived on Thursday, so much of my time has gone into preparing for her arrival and also in starting to learn the ropes of parenthood.


Here is a photo of me holding little Aimee Erasmus in the hospital:

There are some VERY exciting developments on my side of the world. If you have ever read this blog and wondered what it would be like to go on Photographic Safaris with me, then there's some news coming up which will pique your interest! I'll expand more on it later when things have fallen into place.


I should be able to post a new photo sometime later in the week.


Until then - keep well! I probably won't be sleeping much, but the joys of parenthood far outweigh the side-effects!
